Academic Program Review
Office of Institutional ResearchPurpose of the Program Review
The Academic Program Review cycle provides each academic department with the opportunity to participate in a continuous and thorough analysis of a program’s strengths, weaknesses, and plans for improvement. The process is reflective, in that each department examines its processes, student outcomes, and program-level needs. The review process is proactive, as current data will identify areas for change and emerging trends which may require curriculum changes. The process is cyclical, with regular comprehensive reviews becoming a critical function within the department. Prior review information is used to determine if the recommended changes resulted in measurable improvements. The findings are reviewed by the Institutional Effectiveness Committee in order to recommend appropriate institutional supports and resources (people, time, budget, etc.) for the program.

Program Decision Tool
In the case of a particular program concern, an administrator or department chair can initiate a Program Decision Tool. This can be used in the cases of unexpected low enrollment, quickly changing workforce needs, or other emerging trends to which the college would like to respond expeditiously.
