An Introduction to Remote Sensing for Tribal Lands.

UTTC’s Intertribal Research & Resource Center (IRRC) serves the tribes of the Northern Plains by providing Research, Outreach, Training, and Education in the sustainability of food, energy, and water resources. The IRRC and associated UTTC departments house experts in renewable energy, health impacts of environmental toxins, development of biomaterials from agricultural products, sustainable agriculture, genetics, geology, and wildlife ecology and STEM education.

The IRRC conducts community-based research and seeks to address issues relevant to tribal nations in the Northern Plains.

Our community outreach programs are family events focused on providing science information in ways that are fun, active, and designed for all ages. Training programs focus on developing skills in specific areas identified by tribal agencies or community members.

The IRRC produces case studies and literature reviews of topics relevant to conservation professionals in the region (archived in the Educational Resources section on this page).

Research Professional research in renewable energy, toxicology, natural resource use, agricultural biomaterials, wildlife ecology, sustainable food systems, and nutrition provides the foundation of our work.
Outreach Community programming is central to the purpose of the IRRC. General STEM programs for K-12 classrooms and targeted general community programs help get the science to tribal communities.
Training The IRRC supports the training needs of UTTC faculty and staff and tribal agency personnel across the region to increase research capacity, facilitate the use of available environmental data, and enhance natural resource planning.
Education The IRRC supports higher education efforts through the development of case studies and literature reviews.
