Native American Tuition Waiver

How To Apply

There is no application for the Native American Tuition Waiver.  All students are considered for the award that meet the eligibility requirements and deadlines.

Eligibility

Eligible UTTC students may receive the Native American Tuition Waiver (NATW) to cover a student’s full cost of tuition. The NATW does not cover the cost of course fees, books, supplies, or any housing/meal fees.

The NATW is available for all students who are:

  • An enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian Tribe
  • Enrolled full-time as a degree-seeking student (or certificate)
  • Not on SAP Warning or Suspension with the Financial Aid Office

Eligible current students must have their FAFSA complete (including verification documents, if required) by August 1st each year to receive the NATW.

Eligible new, returning, or transfer students must have their FAFSA complete (including verification documents, if required) and have their Admissions documents turned in by the semester deadline. See below for semester deadlines.

Application, Awarding, and Notification

Students are not required to submit a separate application for the Native American Tuition Waiver. Each student’s eligibility is reviewed for the Native American Tuition Waiver automatically if they have met the Admissions and Financial Aid deadlines listed below. Students are notified if they have been awarded the waiver within 7 business days after the deadline. Notifications are sent to the email address listed on the FAFSA.”

New, Transfer & Returning Students

New: Have never attended UTTC or any other previous institution

Transfer: Have attended an institution other than UTTC

Returning: Attended UTTC previously, but were not enrolled in classes during the last semester (also called STOP-OUT)

New, transfer, and returning students must complete the financial aid and admissions requirements before the deadline for the semester. Financial Aid requirements include completing the FAFSA, and, if required, submitting all requested verification documents prior to the deadline. Admissions requirements include submitting all of the required Admissions documents prior to the deadline.

  • Fall Deadline: July 1st
  • Spring Deadline: November 1st
  • Summer Deadline: April 1st
Current Students

Current Student: Student was enrolled during the previous semester and is continuing their enrollment for the coming semester. Current students do not submit Admissions documents. If you were enrolled in the previous semester (spring or summer) and are continuing enrollment for the next school year (fall semester), you MUST have your FAFSA complete by August 1st. Completing your FAFSA includes providing any requested verification documents.

Completing your FAFSA by August 1st will keep your NATW current for the academic year (fall, spring, and summer semesters).

Please note the following:

– UTTC employees, their spouses, and their dependents are not eligible for the NATW if they are participating in the UTTC Education Assistance Program (UTTC Employee Handbook Part 6-11, Section 1: Tuition Waiver Program).

– For more information about Federal Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), refer to: Satisfactory Academic Progress. (*Note* If you repeat courses due to unsatisfactory grades or withdrawal, your academic transcript will differ from your financial aid career GPA calculation.)

– The Admissions and Financial Aid departments will make the determination for who has successfully met the application requirements and deadlines.

– This is a need-based award and can be reduced by other need-based awards.

– Each eligible student can receive the NATW to earn one certificate program, one diploma program, one associate degree program, and one bachelor degree program. If a student chooses to pursue an additional certificate, diploma or degree (ex. a second associates degree), the NATW does not apply.
