Position: Dean of Instruction

Status: Exempt; Full-time

Salary: $65,000 - $84,810

Summary Of Duties:

  • Coordinate with the directors, department chairs and faculty to develop processes that promote academic innovation and improved service to all students, campus-based, online and dual credit.
  • Analyze and evaluate instructional areas and foster a culture of continuous improvement to ensure curriculum and instructional integrity.
  • Serve as chair of the Curriculum Committee.
  • Support academic departments in a manner that promotes excellence in instructional methods, technology, and effective pedagogies that enhance student learning.
  • Provide leadership in generating staff development opportunities for faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate staff development opportunities with the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Director for faculty and staff in CTE programs.
  • Work with department chairs and faculty to support a variety of methods of instruction (campus-based and online) that engage all students and impact student learning to meet course objectives.
  • Mentor faculty in effective academic advising strategies, including the implementation of the Early Alert System.
  • Employ appropriate techniques and strategies to resolve disputes and to enhance communication and cooperation among the personnel in the assigned departments.
  • Evaluate the performance of assigned department chairs, faculty, adjuncts and other personnel in conformance with appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with department chairs to ensure course and program articulation agreements are initiated and maintained.
  • Facilitate preparation of fall, spring and summer course schedules and faculty assignments for all areas.
  • Provide leadership for academic program reviews, annual program review updates, and action plans.
  • Maintain membership on the Institutional Effectiveness Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assigned department chairs, faculty, and staff

Working Conditions:

  • General office conditions
  • Normal working hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 m.
  • Monday through Friday
  • One-hour lunch break

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to go up and down stairs.
  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Regularly required to speak in front of a large group while performing the duties of this job.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, or secondary education from an accredited institution required. PhD or EdD preferred.
  • Five (5) continuous years of full-time classroom teaching experience at the post-secondary level within the past 10 years required.
  • Five (5) continuous years of academic advising experience at the post-secondary level required.
